How Bun came to us and how we pick the name for her
Written by: Muffin
We have visited the bird store multiple times, doing our homework for bird ownership and trying to decide which bird to go with.
It was another visit to the bird store. We were told that all the baby birds were claimed and there were no more new birds coming for the season.
“Oh, but we just got this today!” The staff came out from the back, bringing a blue bird.
We learned that the bird was surrendered because the couple had her divorced. The husband doesn’t want to keep her because she is the “wife-bird”.
“How do you know she is girl?”
“She laid an egg.” The staff replied with a subtle sign.
To me at the time, the “blue bird” looks quite plain. Her blue is kind of desaturated; make her look greyish, like a small pigeon. But after she stepped up my finger, then quickly bee-line up my shoulder and started preening my hair, I know I won’t be able to leave the store without her.
She came bundled with her previous cage and toys. She was quiet on the way home. Just as we thought she will be the timid gentle type, the reality slapped us.
Quaker 101, territorial aggression!
Once we put together her cage and put her back, she suddenly transformed. Until she had enough (I guess) blood from us, she finally approved these new human beans.
And our story with the Bun begins!
